This is a very spacious park and the sites are large, wooded and level. It is now part of the KOA franchise. It has lake access and covered boat slips for rent. The boat docks were in good condition. They also sell gas for boats. Fishing was just OK in July, but others have said that fishing is excellent in the spring. If you do bring a boat, be aware that there is a very steep road down from the campground to the water. We rented a car so that we didn't have to walk several times a day. The bath house was clean as was the pool. There is a nice playground for kids and some nice tent sites. The only downfall is that it is pretty far by boat or water to many of the area's activities.

I agree with the previous reviewer. This place is a work in progress, but after a few improvements it promises to be a very nice place. The sites are huge and right on one of the lakes. The sunsets here are breathtaking. The owners are very pleasant and helpful. They really want you to have a great stay.

This park is part of the Winnebago County (Rockford, IL) Forest Preserve System. There are 4 parks that have campgrounds. They have water fill and dump station available. THERE IS NO BATH HOUSE but there were toilets. We did not use them, so we are not sure if they were flush or pit. The sites are huge and very secluded in the woods. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. They have volleyball, horseshoes, a playground and baseball diamond nearby. We are looking forward to trying the other 3 campgrounds in the near future. This one is located near shopping, grocery, gas, etc. just north of Rockford, IL. It is a very great deal for the money and unlike the State Parks, there is no alcohol prohibition.

This was a nice park however it is VERY hilly and some sites are not very level. We camped in a MH and did not have a car with us when we camped here. The facilities are very far from the CG and a difficult walk because of the hills. For the same reason, I wouldn't recommend for bicycles either unless you are in tremendous physical shape.

Trees not trimmed. Muddy. Park in disrepair. Need to replace picnic tables. Won't return.

The big attraction of this park is it's beautiful swimming lake/beach. It's a hit with the local's that pay admission into the beach. On the weekends the beach bar and snack bar are open and they play music over the outdoor speaker system. Also popular is the restaurant/lounge. It offers excellent food and beverage at a very reasonable price. It sits on the edge of the lake so views from the restaurant are fantastic. The campground is not the main attraction here. Most of the shaded sites are taken by seasonals. They recently added more nightly camping with level full-hook up's, but these offer little shade. This is a very quiet campground that strictly enforces it's rules. If you are into scuba, this place offers certification classes. They also have an RV dealership on property.

Excellent State Park with friendly helpful staff. Beautiful sites, some quite large. We love hiking and biking on the many trails at this park.

Nice to see a CG in IL that doesn't have a bunch of trashy seasonal sites. Most sites are generous in size and very level. Enough, but not too many trees. Owners very nice and friendly. Great area with tons to do. Very well stocked store and nice game room. Ideal for groups and rally's as there are many wide open areas with community fire pits, and a nice rec hall. Campground and buildings new.

Sites and roads to small for MH's. Other seasonal patrons unfriendly. Won't return. There are nicer CG's in the area.

This place is a dump. Roads (if that is what you would call them) are narrow and tree branches were not trimmed at all. Had to drive around the low hanging branches on the grass. Only one dumpster at the exit of the CG for the entire place. Dump station blocks the exit for those wanting to exit, no room to drive around. Hot tub, pool and AC extra charges. Hot tub water was green. Sites not defined by gravel or any other kind of pad. Sites not level. In order to get somewhat level on our site we were far from the hook-ups. Picnic tables were mostly broken and covered with green moss. "Grass" (weeds) not mowed. Lots of mud when it rains. Many trashy seasonal sites. I give this a two instead of a one because the lake looks kind of neat for kids.

Not big rig friendly. MH's stay away. Mud and very soft ground especially in spring or after rain. No sewer sites. Tree's not trimmed.

Sites were extremely small. Nothing here to justify price as pool was not open yet. Charged extra for visitors that came only for lunch.

Did not know that the CG is nowhere near the Visitor Center and the hiking trails. The CG is OK, but not much to do here without a car.

This is one of our favorite campgrounds. Very spacious sites and very scenic. It's about 1/2 hour drive to Galena. Across the street from the campground there is a free boat launch, bait store and restaurant. There is also a small camp store on site. The hiking trails are wonderful. The campground is very large and usually has sites available for the summer weekends if you arrive on Friday evening. The grounds are very nice for biking and long walks.

We really liked this little park. It is ideal if you like to shore fish. The lake is about 2 miles around and there is a nice trail for walking. (no bikes) There are many piers and benches for fishing. The concession stand, bait shop and boat rental area is accessible from both the road and the trail. The campground is a very short walk to the trail/lake. There was very little algae when we were here and the water was exceptionally clear. The sites in the middle section were fairly level. The outer sites, not so much so. They have a small loop that is pet-free.

We loved this beautiful park. The sites are spacious and the views were beautiful, especially in the fall. It is an easy walk or bike ride into town. We will definitely return, next time with our small boat.

We got lucky and reserved a lake front site on a last minute cancellation. This is one of the nicest parks we have ever stayed at. Very clean, quiet and well maintained. The owners were very friendly and accomodating. They have boat slips for rent. The boating on the lake was wonderful.

This is a very nice campground. We did not notice any seasonal sites. The owners and staff were very friendly and accomodating. Some of the pull-through sites are a bit narrow, although very long. We probably would have preferred the sites in the back of the park even though some of them were W/E only, as this area was more spread out and shaded.

The campsites, utility hook-ups, buildings, bathrooms, etc. are all new. The new owners spared no expense in refurbishing this campground. Lakeside cabins are also a new addition. Sites are generous in size and are located in a separate area from the seasonal sites. The non-seasonal sites have terrific views of the lake. Although not yet open at the time of this review, the pool is new and quite large. The patio and landscaping around the pool is also new. The campground has activities/entertainment on the weekends, along with a campstore. There is additional forested land with hiking trails. Would have probably given a 10 except that the gravel roads were narrow in places.

The campsites here are more generous than other private campgrounds in the area. The place is great fun for kids (and adults). The activities and entertainment for their special weekends (Labor Day, Halloween) are top notch. The lake is fun even for hard to please teens. There are other areas of the lake suitable for fishing. The nightly camping area is uphill from the lake/snack bar/arcade/store/office so be prepared for a steep climb.

Very large shaded quiet sites. One of the closest camping facilities to Milwaukee. Near 7 Mile Fair and the dog track. Camp hosts are very friendly. Very nice well maintained county campground. Reservations accepted for a small fee. No store or firewood.

Open year round. A good place to go when the other campgrounds in the area aren't yet open for the season. As the other reviewer said, not much for kids as the arcade is lacking in games and the store lacking in stuff. The pull-through sites aren't bad but no trees. We have had pretty good luck fishing in their ponds.

Although most of the sites are quite small, the pool (complete with diving board) is great - ditto for the arcade and the mini-golf. Kids LOVE this place and the proximity to downtown Galena is convenient. The owners are very nice and accommodating. The lower sites on the "loops" offer more space than the traditional sites.
